At ActivCare Coaching we maintain a relationship and communicate with our coaches regularly to keep up to date with how becoming an ActivCare Coach has impacted both individuals work and their organisation, as well as discovering how we can aid them further.
Last year we trained Louisa as an ActivCare Coach. Louise is the Regional Manager for St. Martins Care Homes. By becoming an ActivCare Coach providing ActivCare training for her staff, Louise has been able to make an impact across numerous care homes in the North East.
We recently interviewed Louisa to find out what St Martins Care Homes had been up to since our training day.
Here’s how it went:
Why did you become an Activcare coach?
As an individual who trains staff, I was very aware of the cost of training and how high priced training can negatively impact the amount we can deliver as an organisation. I found Activcare Coaching to be very cost effective, approachable and knowledgeable. They were very aware of our organisations limits, as we previously relied on classes and activities to be solely delivered by external organisations. This cost St. Martin’s per hour and left us with the option of only offering classes to our residents once a week. I wanted to be able to offer seated activity classes to every care home and to each carer within them, as this would create the option of delivering a class whenever possible and would not be an ongoing cost to the home. Together with ActivCare we selected a programme which was best suited to our organisation and we haven’t looked back since!
What did the training day involve?
During my training I was able to ask lots of questions and work at my own pace. We covered all the aspects of delivering a class, setting up a room, using equipment and the exercises and class structure itself.
Has becoming an ActivCare coach helped you in any way?
It has helped immensely, St Martin’s are now able to provide each of our care homes with an individual exercise programme bespoke to them. The carers are able to deliver individual exercises which reduce residents pressure sores, improves circulation and improves mental health. Delivering a class is a lot of fun! So those who deliver the sessions really enjoy their role.
Those with a form of dementia enjoy music, you will often find that dementia residents cannot speak, but put music on and they are able to sing. Those who cannot walk can take part in seated dance as they never lose their rhythm. Gentle exercise can only improve residents quality of life and the classes help to keep the staff motivated due to the smiles and enjoyment of the residents.
Would you recommend Activcare Coaching to other organisations?
I would always recommend Activcare Coaching. The team are absolutely amazing. They work with you, help you choose a programme which is perfect for your organisation, then they stay with you! Each month they help us with their online virtual class videos that staff can copy and get inspiration from. They are supportive, and if I have any questions, they will always be there to help.
